Setting and Managing Residency Goals

Create goals to track how many days you spend in each jurisdiction and stay on top of your residency requirements.

Individual

Overview

Residency goals help you stay compliant with tax rules. For example, you might need to spend at least 183 days in Florida to establish residency, or fewer than 183 days in New York to avoid being considered a resident there.

Borderly tracks your progress against these goals automatically as your days are recorded.

Creating a Goal

Follow these steps to set up a new goal:

1

Go to Goals

Open Goals from the sidebar.

2

Tap "Add Goal"

Start creating a new goal.

3

Choose the jurisdiction

Select which state, province, or country this goal applies to.

4

Choose the goal type

Select from six goal types: minimum days, maximum days, target days, ratio, percentage, or domicile establishment. See the next article for details on each type.

5

Set your target

Enter the number of days or percentage for your goal.

6

Save

Your goal appears on your dashboard and Borderly begins tracking your progress.

You can set a time period for each goal (for example, the calendar year 2026). This scopes the goal to a specific date range.

Managing Your Goals

From the Goals page, you can edit, pause (deactivate), or delete any goal. Deactivated goals stop appearing on your dashboard but are not deleted — you can reactivate them at any time.
