Interpreting Verification Results

Understand what the verification portal is telling you about the integrity of the records.

Hash Chain Status

The verification portal shows the overall status of the hash chain:

  • Chain Verified (green) — All records are properly linked. No tampering detected.
  • Chain Broken (red) — A break was detected at a specific point. This could indicate tampering or data corruption.
  • Gaps Detected (yellow) — There are days with no records. This does not necessarily indicate a problem — the person may not have had tracking active on those days.

Timestamp Verification

If the records have RFC 3161 timestamps, the portal shows whether each timestamp is valid. A valid timestamp means an independent third party confirmed the record existed at the stated time.

Evidence Verification

For each evidence item, the portal shows the file hash. If the file hash matches the hash recorded when the evidence was uploaded, the file has not been modified since upload.
